Levels of Care

Whether you offer Detox, Residential Treatment, PHP, IOP, or OP, KipuEMR software was made for you. Kipu was built by the addiction treatment community for the addiction treatment community.

Unlike other products that use a cookie-cutter approach adapted from other health sectors, Kipu was designed for you, the addiction and behavioral health specialist.
These are just a few key features of our EMR software – arranged by level of care – many of which are unique to Kipu because of our pedigree in addiction treatment. For the entire comprehensive list, please visit the Kipu Technology page.

The Best EMR For Detox Centers

The KipuEMR software was developed in an agile environment for over a year in an actual, working, CARF accredited detox facility. The specific needs of this facility gave us unique expertise in areas such as:

Medication Management

The KipuEMR software has many strengths, but we truly stand out in medication management, administration, and dispensing. Physicians or medical officers using KipuEMR can save standard orders, taper orders, or even enter manual orders, in any frequency. Staff then administers medication based on med logs, which indicate when a dosage is due. The administration of meds is then logged to prevent double or accidental administration.

We also support eFax, e-prescriptions, including a complete encyclopedia of medications, first response efficacy, reactions, and drug interactions, including the FDA adverse event reporting system. Additionally, our DNA pharmacogenetics lab interface gives medical personnel even more data on optimum dosages when prescribed with other medications.

Our competitors mostly developed their EMR software in the behavioral health sector, where medication management is not needed. This explains why Kipu has won every competitive evaluation at detox facilities with treatment involving medication.

Med Log

The Med Log tab in your KipuEMR software shows the scheduled medication(s) due for patients on any given day. An example is shown below.

Bed Boards and Occupancy Management

Again, our roots and pedigree in addiction treatment centers have provided another strength to KipuEMR software. Clients can pre-plan patient arrivals and departures and assign beds, rooms, or even multiple floors, wings, or locations.

When occupancy is enabled, you can display your occupancy in the form of a Bed Board in as many displays throughout your premises or authorized locations as you choose.

Common spots for the Bed Board Display are in your treatment center’s admissions coordinators/call center area, nurse’s station, executive offices, etc.

The KipuEMR Bed Board Display

In grid form, the Bed Board Display will show your current census and admission and discharge date for each patient/client, as well as gender, MR#, referrer & discharge facility, payment method, level of care, and any status and flag (allergies, urgent issue, etc.).

The Bed Board Display refreshes every 2 minutes in order to communicate the latest information. See the whole picture with the Bed Board Display shown below.

Occupancy View

The KipuEMR Occupancy View allows you to see your patients in a concise view:

Residential Treatment PHP, IOP, OP

After a year in the original detox facility, Kipu developers moved to CARF Florida, a Joint Commission Accredited treatment center (which boasted a therapy staff with an average age of 67 – so winning them over with a digital EMR software solution was no small challenge), to continue our Agile Development in addiction treatment.

This required many unique features sets not previously found or needed in a detox or behavioral health treatment facility. Our developers also worked closely with staff at The Florida House Experience (FHE), another Joint Commission Accredited facility with all levels of care, and an expansive marketing and advertising staff who had invaluable input on the KipuEMR, “Pre-Admission” module or “CRM.” To this day, FHE still uses our Pre-Admission CRM.

Not even a brief flirtation with Salesforce could change their mind!

FHE’s Detox facility also runs on KipuEMR software.

Additional Feature Sets for Treatment, PHP, IOP, & OP Facilities

Group Session Notes

This is the one. When we show this during demos, we see smiles from therapists that rival those displayed on stage at the crowning of the Miss America pageant! It’s a simple feature, really, but so specialized to addiction treatment facilities that no-other current EMR software gets it right.

Therapists schedule their group sessions, attach homework assignments or other material, print a schedule for clients, start the session on a PC, laptop, or iPad tablet, and then take role/adjust the attendance.

During or after the session, the therapist enters session notes along with individual notes for each patient, then signs it and submits it for review by the clinical director (if policies & procedures call for that).

After that, bam! Each attendee receives a group or individual session note in their file. Plus, if this is checked as a “billable event,” then KipuEMR will include the session in its billing report for each attendance. You can see how easy it is to use KipuEMR to document Group Session Notes below:

Sessions with homework assignments and other materials can be saved for future groups. KipuEMR’s group session feature not only saves hours of time for therapists, but it’s also the answer to demands made by accrediting agencies and insurance payers. We’ve set the standard by which addiction treatment operates today!

Treatment Plans

KipuEMR starts with over 75 Treatment Plans and 2,500 goals right off the shelf:

  • Entire Wiley Treatment planners embedded within the KipuEMR library, along with additional library contributions.
  • Upon implementation, all client treatment plans are digitized and added to the library for immediate use.
  • Additional treatment plans are available to be purchased and added through the “Kipu Marketplace. “
  • Freedom to develop or modify/customize and save treatment plans
  • “Golden Thread®” connects each segment of the episode of care, for review and approval.

Aftercare / Monitoring and Maintenance

Only recently has the buzzword “aftercare” been used as a “level of care;” previously, this was called “alumni relations” or even “alumni programs.” Again, Kipu’s unique experience in addiction treatment has given our Agile development team insight into this very unique and segmented world. It doesn’t exist in Behavioral Health or any other area, so other EMRs simply can’t do it.

We built (and continue to build) our AfterCare Module in addiction treatment for addiction treatment with features necessary for you to perform your best by your patients.
